Do you shop Online?

by Christina Gentile, OHE PTA Online Partners chairperson

As we gear up for the Holiday season ahead of us, I wanted to let you know of a new way for you to do your shopping online as well as raise money for Oak Hill.

Our newest online partner is www.onecause.com.  You can enter our code, which is 161499 or you can search using Oak Hill Elem PTA.  Any shopping that you do through that site will earn a percentage for Oak Hill PTA.    Even better,  install the OneCause Toolbar and never miss a contribution - even if you forget to start your shopping at OneCause.com! By simply installing the OneCause Toolbar, you'll be making sure every eligible purchase counts, plus you can contribute up to 2 cents per qualified Yahoo! Search.

Yearbook Committee Needs Your Photos

If you have taken your camera to the Ice Cream Social, Fun Field Days, on field trips or any other school events, please send your photos to the yearbook committee.

Photos must be submitted in digital form. They can be emailed to yearbook@ohepta.org or submitted on CD. Place CDs in an envelope labeled with YEARBOOK, your name, and the teacher's name. Send the envelope to your child's teacher or place it in the yearbook mailbox in the teachers' breakroom.

Spring Carnival News!

It is never too early to start thinking about the PTA spring carnival!

Remember that our kids benefit directly from the carnival profits.  This money is used for classroom teaching materials, aids, programs and supplies to ensure that our students have the tools necessary to learn.

Yes, we are already accepting donations!  There are boxes in both the annex and main building lobbies, clearly marked for carnival donations.  Items that we will need this year include:

 a. Children’s books in excellent/very good condition
 b. NEW, wrapped, small toys: if you visit a fast-food establishment and can convince your kids not to open their toys, please donate them!
 c. Monetary contributions: if you feel the need to contribute and cannot assist in another way, we will always gladly accept donations.  These funds will be used to purchase prizes, food, etc for the night of carnival.
 d. And, last but definitely not least, our confetti eggs!
While baking or making your daily breakfast, please remember to crack your eggs leaving approximately 2/3 of the eggshell intact.  The eggshell should then be washed thoroughly and returned to their original container.  All eggshells can be turned in to your child’s classroom.  For anyone not familiar with the process, these clean, dry eggshells will then be filled with confetti and the hole in the top covered with tissue paper...hand them to a child and use your imagination…they are VERY popular with the kids!  We need 100’s of eggs so any donation is appreciated.  If you do not bake or do not wish to save your shells, you are more than welcome to donate pre-made Cascarones!

If you have any questions or comments please contact Heather Sendera. Thank you in advance for your participation and assistance.  Mark your calendars for Friday, March 5, 2010.  It should be a fantastic carnival.

Mark your calendars!

*please see our website calendar for the most up-to-date dates and more information

Sing with me now...

by Deena Perkins, OHE PTA President

Dashing and shopping and wrapping and cooking
Homework and teacher gifts and school parties for booking
but do you recall? There's a PTA general meeting this Tuesday for all...

Come to the PTA meeting
We'll have a grand ole time
You'll hear ways to stop bullying
and something besides the holiday to occupy your mind

Tuesday 6:30 at Oak Hill
Meet in the cafeteria
Hear how we're spending your money
and making Oak hill better for ya

All of those other elementaries
wish they had such a great school
but they don't know that the secret
is in OHE parents, staff, and kids who are cool

Then one foggy Tuesday eve
Ms. Whistler came to say
Oak Hill Elementary is the best
and we plan to stay that way (hey)

Go out and tell the rest
all the great stuff you heard on Tuesday night
and how great general meetings are
from the Oak Hill PTA, that's right!

Join the OHE Library Birthday Book Club…

The Birthday Book Club is a great opportunity for the families of Oak Hill Elementary to help build our library collection. In order to participate, all you have to do is donate $12.00 to the Oak Hill Library during the month of your child’s birthday. Your child will then come to the library to pick out a special Birthday Book Club Book from our vast collection.  Once they have selected their Birthday Book, a bookplate with your child’s name and birth date is placed inside the book and they are able to check it out to show their friends and family. A photograph of your child with their Birthday Book is taken and posted in the hallway before they are given a special certificate to mark the occasion. The book should be returned to the library in a timely manner so it can continue being circulated for all students to read and enjoy.  The best thing about the Birthday Book Club is that all monies donated will be used to purchase additional books for our library!

Yes!  We want to participate in the Birthday Book Club.  Download and fill out this form and send it in with your child or drop off at the library.
