I am a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. I am a young artist whose creative inspirations are reflected in oil paintings. My education began at St. James Episcopal School where my former elem. art teacher, Mrs. Jensen, inspired me. I always felt success in art class and knew that my talent was different from other students. I completed my education in public school at Richard King High School. Spending my time after school and in the summers creating new pieces of art, my family members always told me that I should continue working through the arts because I was good and I obviously loved it. Decorating objects, painting small canvases, and even designing clothing, I always knew of my passion for art. As a former dancer, gymnast, cheerleader, and professional Universal Cheerleading Association instructor, I knew that I wanted to continue my education in teaching. Although I initially enrolled in The University of Texas College of Education, I knew the art department is where I belonged. After a year of taking basic core classes, I decided to combine the two things I love and study art education. In the spring of 2004 I studied abroad on Semester at Sea. Direct relationship with the art and culture of various countries has been a major inspiration for my art.

I visited Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong Beijing, China, South Korea and Japan. Through my observation experiences in public schools, I have found a love for children’s art. Now that I have become an effective art teacher, I can work with children and help them develop a love for the arts as well. As a Visual Arts Studies Major with a B.F.A degree, I hope to work in galleries and teach while working on my personal work. I was elected for five personal and group shows at UT in the flood gallery and the Creative Research Laboratory. Post graduation from UT, I moved to San Antonio where I opened a new school in Northside ISD, Fisher Elementary. The school was a title one school where I worked with underprivelidged kids. After missing Austin, I returned for an internship in the department of education at the Austin Museum of Art. I wrote the lesson plans for the 2007 school year for classes who visited the future exhibitions. After being hired by AISD, I began working for Oak Hill Elementary in 2007 as the primary art teacher. I have now acquired a brand new art room with plenty of opportunity for the children to learn and talk about the arts. I hope I can provide students with a positive outlook on visual arts. Not only do I hope they can learn the skills of visual art, but grow to be able to appreciate and talk with others about the arts. I am currently working on writing and illustrating a children’s book. I am a member of the Diabetes Association, Austin Museum of Art, The Billfish Foundation, Texas Exes, and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority Alumni. I hope to be an advocate of the arts everyday for the rest of my life. I hope to create a worldly view of art and culture and promote multicultural understandings for children. I want to inspire and motivate students through successful lessons that also teach interdisciplinary connections and TEKS. I am a motivated art educator who teaches children how to be successful in the real world.
