No Place For Hate

Oak Hill Elementary is a No Place for Hate campus.  No Place for Hate is a nationally recognized ADL program which incorporates anti-bias education into the campus experience and culture.  The goal is to create more harmonious communities by combating bias and increasing an appreciation for the richness that diversity brings.

As a part of No Place for Hate, we are participating in No Name Calling Week January 23-27, with the goal of ending name calling and bullying. The activities we will be doing for this week are:

Spirit Days - Students are encouraged to dress up related to the following No Name Calling and Bully Free school themes:

  • Monday (1/23): Get On The Peace Train!  Students wear tie-die.
  • Tuesday (1/24): Follow The Golden Rule: Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated.  Students wear gold.
  • Wednesday (1/25): Random Acts Of Kindness Day - Let Love Rule. Students wear red.
  • Thursday (1/26): Team Up Against Bullying.  Students wear team shirts or OHE shirts.
  • Friday (1/27): Let Your True Colors Shine!  Students wear a rainbow of colors inside out.

Resolution of Respect – Students will sign our Resolution of Respect which will be posted around our campus.  The resolution reads: I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly. I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone – even if they are not like me. If I see someone being hurt or bullied I will report it to an adult.  Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy at school. I want our school to be No Place for Hate.

Class projects - Teachers will work with their students to create a small project related to No Name Calling, being a Bully Free School, or any of the Spirit Day themes.  Projects should include some element of technology, which could include using a computer, ladibug, "smart" pen, or video recording device to record a skit, create a powerpoint presentation, poster, song, poem, dance, banner, etc.  These will be shown during our Friday assemblies (3-4 projects/assembly).
