Teaching Garden

Our Oak Hill Teaching Garden is located in front of the Kindergarten Annex. The garden will be filled with native plants to attract butterflies and birds. It will be a great place for students of every grade to learn about plant and animal lifecycles, and complement parts of each grade’s science curriculum.

WOW!  Thanks to the generous Oak Hill Elementary School community, we have reached our campaign goal and more to fund the Teaching Garden before the April 15th deadline!  To add to our great fortune are Corey Gross and Lorin Baum-Gross, parents of three OHE students and owners of Texas Roots, who have graciously offered to help us finish this project!

Your generosity will not only make the Teaching Garden spectacular, but enable the PTA to beautify other areas of the OHE campus early next school year.

If you are looking for other ways to help, such as planting and watering the garden, you can either contact Luci Latimer at luci@latimer.com or go to the Volunteer Spot:

WORKDAYS:
Sign up to be notified of workdays so we can finish the Teaching Garden this Spring.  Contact PTA Grounds Chair Luci Latimer at Luci@latimer.com so she can send you a message, as workdays are set.  Some people bring their kids and some don’t.  Feel free to work for one hour or five; it’s fun and you will have a great sense of accomplishment when it’s finished.  Our next planned workday is Saturday, May 1st!

WATERING CREW:
When the garden is young, we will need your help with hand watering.  This commitment could be as little as an hour each week.  Again, contact Luci to find out what days of the week she is in need of volunteers.

FINISH THE GARDEN CAMPAIGN IS A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS!

The Finish the Garden Campaign raised an amazing $3765.00 surpassing our goal of $1700.00 by $2065.00!

With your contributions, we have already planted over 150 plants and spread 18 yards of mulch last weekend.  The next step will be to install 8 yards of decomposed granite to build upon and freshen the current pathway through the Garden on May 1st.
