Reflections is an arts recognition and achievement program established in 1969 by the National PTA. This program provides an opportunity for students to use their creative talents and to express themselves through their own work in one or more of 6 different artistic categories. By encouraging students to be creative, we help them develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Although the program follows a “contest” format, the goal is participation, not winning. All participants in the program will be recognized for their efforts and receive participation ribbons and prizes. We will be displaying all of the entries in a gallery that will be open for viewing by the public and all of the Oak Hill Elementary students. Selected entries advance to the next level of judging.
TURN IN ENTRIES AT OAK HILL MAIN OFFICE: 10/21/2016The theme for 2016-2017 is "What Is Your Story" Because the program is designed to recognize each student’s creativity, assistance from adults or collaboration with other students is not allowed. Only new pieces of artwork, inspired by the theme are acceptable. Copying, tracing, or using another person’s ideas are not allowed. The theme must be reflected in the student’s work. A student may create an entry in or outside of school. PARTICIPATION IS VOLUNTARY UNLESS OTHERWISE DETERMINED BY YOUR TEACHER!
All entries must have a title, although an entry will not be disqualified for using a theme as the title. An artists statement is required and there is a place for this statement on the entry form. Entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit. Judges will recognize a wide variety of styles.

A Word to THE Parents. . . As with any student activity, parent involvement and support are very important. But parents must remember that student artists need to be responsible for their own work. Children must make their own decisions about what to create and what to enter in the Reflections Program. By producing their own literature, musical compositions, photogra- phy and visual art, children not only learn about the arts; more importantly, they learn about themselves. Supporting the Reflections Program is one way that you can support the arts in your home, school and community. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR PARENT EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE APPROPRIATE BLANK ON THE ENTRY FORM. CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING THIS PROGRAM, AWARDS CEREMONY, ADVANCING ENTRIES WILL BE DONE VIA EMAIL!!! YOUR SIGNATURE IS ALSO REQUIRED ON THE ENTRY FORM!
